The Great Playlist Meme of ‘04

Robert at bump.net posted about this, so I figured I’d post mine.

The instructions go like this:

  1. Open up the music player on your computer.
  2. Set it to play your entire music collection.
  3. Hit the “shuffle” command.
  4. Tell us the title of the next ten songs that show up (with their musicians), no matter how embarrassing. That’s right, no skipping that Carpenters tune that will totally destroy your hip credibility. It’s time for total musical honesty. Write it up in your blog or journal and link back to at least a couple of the other sites where you saw this.
  5. If you get the same artist twice, you may skip the second (or third, or etc.) occurances. You don’t have to, but since randomness could mean you end up with a list of ten song with five artists, you can if you’d like.

When I do that, I get the following 10:

  1. Numb (Mike Hedges Mix) - U2 (The Best of 1990-2000)
  2. The Sounds of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel (The Best of...)
  3. Kicking the Heart Out - Rogue Wave (Out of the Shadow)
  4. You Are My Love - Jamiroqaui (Travelling Without Moving)
  5. Why Should I Care - Diana Krall (When I Look In Your Eyes)
  6. Getting Closer To An Unknown Goal - Rhythm of Snow (42 More Things To Do In Zero Gravity)
  7. Es Por Ti - Gipsyland (Gipsyland)
  8. Da Funk - Daft Punk (Homework)
  9. I Ran - A Flock of Seagulls (A Flock of Seagulls)
  10. Sara - Fleetwood Mac (The Very Best of...)

It’s a very weird sounding selection, when they are listed that way. It was good for a laugh anyway.

1) If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body – Bellamy Brothers

2) Suspicious Minds – Dwight Yoakam

3) Hurt – Johnny Cash

4) Understanding – Bob Seger

5) Moody Blue – Elvis Presley

6) Timothy – The Buoys

7) Things We Said Today – The Beatles

8) My Sweet Lord – George Harrison

9) Fire Lake – Bob Seger

10) Make It Mean Something – Rob Jungklas

That was good for a laugh. Funny how they came out in that order. How many songs are in your collection now? I’ve got a small collection compared to everyone else I know. Only 576 songs.

Russ's gravatar Russ United States December 10, 2004

I have 271 songs. Almost one fourth of them are The Beatles, and yet, only one Beatles song showed up in the first ten.

So I take it you’re a Beatles fan? I’m just guessing.

I don’t have one song from the Beatles, yet I like a lot of their music. I guess I’ll have to remedy that soon.

Yeah, I’ve been a Beatles fan for many many years. I don’t really listen to much music at all anymore, but I find the Beatles to be very fascinating from a historical perspective.

Hey Chris! I’m a little late for this one, but I thought I’d send it to you anyway.

1. Wrapped Around Your Finger – Sting and The Police
2. I Don’t Want to Lose Your Love Tonight – Outfield
3. Elevation – U2
4. If You’re Not the One – Daniel Bedingfield
5. You Are My Shining Star – Manhattans
6. Disco Inferno – Beegees
7. Here and Now – Luther Vandross
8. Don’t Stop Believing – Journey
9. Afternoon Delight – Will Ferrell
10. Another One Bites the Dust – Queen

wondering if their was any chance of you sending me a copy of Getting Closer to an Unknown Goal by Rhythm of Snow… Can’t find any place to download it at all thanks!

You might be able to get the CD from here. It’s hard to get because it’s been discontinued. It will probably cost you around $32 since it’s an import and it’s a two disc collection.
