The Paranoid by Red Snapper

I posted earlier about discovering last.fm and how much I liked it. I’ve discovered lots of new bands I would’ve never heard of otherwise. Well now, I’ve found a band, and one song in particular from them, that I really, really like.
I’ve been of fan of jazz for a while, but only certain kinds. There’s some jazz I just can’t bring myself to enjoy. Acid jazz can get as annoying as country music sometimes, and that’s really bad. I like some of the old stuff, but there’s a more modern version of jazz that I enjoy the most. I’m not even sure what it’s officially called, but I’ve seen it called nu-jazz a couple of places.
The Paranoid by Red Snapper (the Prince Blimey album) is hard to place though. If you look at the keywords people are using to classify it on last.fm, they’re all over the place. They range from electronica to trip-hop, nu-jazz to breakbeat. One keyword I KNOW is accurate is “kick-ass”.
It’s a jazz song that just about forces you to move to the beat. If you manage to sit still through the whole song, there’s something seriously wrong with you. I’ve heard a lot of decent songs out there, most of which I’ll stop what I’m doing for a few seconds to listen to before diving back into work. The first time I heard The Paranoid through last.fm’s music player, I stopped what I was working on for the entire length of the song. And then got pissed because I couldn’t skip back to play it again.
Don’t try to find it on iTunes, because it’s not listed. At least not a couple days ago when I last checked. I spent a couple days trying to find it through um… other means and eventually found a single listing for it. I’ve now got myself a decent quality copy of the song. If iTunes will stock it, I’ll gladly buy it through there and make it legit.
