I just finished watching an excellent movie on the Independent Film Channel called The Real Blonde. It was made in ‘97 and stars Matthew Modine, Catherine Keener, Daryl Hannah, Bridgette Wilson, Denis Leary and several other good actors/actresses. It even had Elizabeth Berkley in it, and she was surprisingly good in her role. It’s a love story, but not your typical mushy Hollywood type. This one shows a couple struggling through their own hang-ups and dealing with life. There are also several other sub-stories with other people woven creatively in the storyline. Each story intersects every now and then with the other.
Normally, I get depressed after seeing a love story since I’ve been single for the past 7 years, but I was actually very upbeat and happy after seeing this movie. I loved it. I kept laughing to myself after it was over thinking of all the great scenes. It was MUCH better than I expected it to be. Plus it had a great story to tell. The people struggled with life, each other and themselves, but realized that it made each of them a better person. It was great the way the movie showed how each person realized it, and how it changed them.
It wasn’t all serious or sappy either. There were some very funny scenes that made me whip out my glass-shattering laugh. I scared the crap out of my dog at one point, I laughed so loud.
This is definitely in my top 10 favorite movies, and I will be buying this on DVD for sure.
I saw this flick…or rather I was channel surfing (I should never be given the remote control) and saw bits of it – it seemed pretty good.
Catherine Keener takes some interesting rolls…have you seen adaptation? Is definatly worth a look.
