The War Becomes Tougher

This is no surprise.  Just about everyone had been predicting it would get harder the closer we got to Baghdad.  I was hoping that it wouldn’t happen, but knew it would.

The first fratricide occurred.  A US patriot missile took out a British Tornado on its way back from a mission.  You really hate to see things like this.  The US is investigating the incident and the British are too.

What really pissed me off was the blatant disregard of the Geneva convention by the Iraqi military by killing and parading a US maintenance crew on national TV.  Al Jazeera is also playing the footage non-stop.  Assholes.

There is apparantly still some kind of command chain because the Iraqi leadership knew they had captured American forces and announced it a few hours before they showed it.  Also the Iraqi vice-president is still alive.  The US thought he had been killed, but apparently not.

It seemed to me that most of the news networks on TV were WAY too gleeful about this war.  I got so pissed the other night with Fox because they were so excited about what they were announcing that it seemed they were play-calling a basketball game or something.  War is a serious and dangerous thing!  Treat it that way.

If I hear the words “embedded”, “A-day”, “S-day” or “Shock & awe” one more time, I’m putting my foot through the TV.

The only surprising news was the US soldier trying to kill the 101st Airbourne commander.  Other soldiers said he had been acting strangely for a while, but not strange enough to be sent back home.  I know these soldiers are under tremendous amounts of stress and probably not much sleep, but actions like this come from different motives than lack of sleep or anxiety.  At least they have the soldier who did it.
