It’s official now. Virginia Tech’s X supercomputer made out of 1100 PowerMac G5s is the third fastest supercomputer in the world, based on the survey and test results run by the TOP500 project. You can see a presentation of the world’s 5 fastest supercomputers at their site. According to their results, VTX is only the third computer in the world to ever surpass 10 teraflops per second. That’s just BARELY faster than my iMac!
