Toumaï… the missing link?

The last few days, there has been a big hubbub (by science community standards at least) about an old skull found in Chad about a year ago. To see what I mean, go here within the next few days. The French scientist who found it, Michel Brunet, claims it is the “missing link” in the human evolutionary chain. It was almost instantly lauded as world-shattering, and many reporters and scientists jumped on the bandwagon. To me it looked like an ape skull.
Now it turns out, there are other scientists who are now saying the same thing.
