US Loses World Cup Opener

Wow. The US comes into this World Cup with its highest world ranking ever, with one of the strongest teams it’s ever put together and gets hammered by the Czech Republic 3-0. Granted, the Czechs are ranked second in the world, behind Brazil, but still. Losing this big in your opener almost certainly means you’re not going to make it past the first round.
Next up is another powerhouse, Italy. Italy hasn’t been looking like the Italy of old, but they’re still a dangerous team. The US is going to have to step it up several notches in order to make it into the second round.
Claudio Reyna said some of the US team were nervous. Well they showed it. Now they’re going to have to put it behind them and fight their way into the second round. It’s going to be a steep, uphill battle the whole way though.

Thats what is so cool about sports. Its like a good mystery, just when ya think you got it figured out….SUPRISE !!! I still use that line that Jay used years ago….Gretzky shoots !!! Jesus saves !! He scooores !!! I play roller hockey with my sons and the guys at the rink think that is the funniest thing. Thanks Jay

And we’re talking about the US’ loss in the World Cup, not the NBA finals. Hehe.
The US got put in an incredibly tough group and it might just be hard enough that they do not make it out, which is unfortunate.
And then there is England. Whoa. They won 3-0 and 1-0 against those teams? Do not call me impressed. Just look at the stats for those games and all those pumping those fists for England should lose heart.
Personally, I am cheering for the Mexicans. Good team, excellent plays, and they got plenty of heart.
I think allowing the Czechs to score within the first five minutes really killed our confidence and set the tone for the entire match. :(
