VERY Hot Sauces

Ray Garraud links to a site that showcases the world’s hottest hot sauces.  The hottest hot sauce I’ve ever had was Dave’s Ultimate Insanity.  I had some in Germany.  One drop on a plateful of meat… I took one bite and instantly began to sweat.  I KNOW my face was red from the heat.  Needless to say, I didn’t finish the plate.

As hot as that was, it’s Scoville rating is only 250,000, about the same as a Habanero pepper (which is the hottest in the world).  The recently crowned king of hot sauces is called Caldera, and it’s Scoville rating is over 10,000,000!!  Technically, it’s not a sauce or condiment.  It’s used for flavoring.  Six ounces of this stuff could produce heat in over 1,000,000 gallons of salad oil!!  Just a tad too hot for me.

our local whole foods grocery sells habanero stuffed olives. great stuff. they’re usually packaged fresh, but if you wanted some, i could try to bottle ‘em and mail ‘em off …

I’m willing to try anything once. I love olives. I’m not a hot sauce fanatic like some others, but I like spicy things. If you want to mail some off, I’ll be more than willing to try them out.

That’s if your offer was serious. =)

Kip, thanks for the link. I hadn’t heard of Blair’s 6am. I don’t think it existed when I wrote this entry. I don’t know what you’d use the stuff in. It’s so hot, you couldn’t dilute it enough in everyday cooking.
