I had posted earlier about installing Linux on my PowerBook. I also posted about the different window managers I was trying out like Sawfish, BlackBox, FluxBox and OpenBox. Well, I ended up sticking with another one called Waimea. It’s got all of the features of OpenBox that I like and leaves out the ones I don’t like. On top of that, it has support for pixmap, anti-aliased text, multiple monitor support and keybinding. It’s very fast and flexible.
In fact, it’s so flexible, that I made a new style for it called Smoothstripes. It’s based on the OS X theme of the same name, which I’m using on my OS X iMac. Once I got Waimea looking as close to my Mac as possible, I took a screenshot and uploaded it to the Waimea site. Apparently, many other people like it as well because it’s been voted the number one screenshot so far. How cool is that?
I’ve been inspired, so I’m already making some more styles for Waimea. I’m working on two different ones right now. They should be ready by this weekend. One’s a dark theme, the other is a lighter, aluminum-like theme.
I have made one called SmoothStripes. You can get it here.
Wow. It’s been quite a while since I made this theme. I used Photoshop to make the images. You could also use Gimp. I used a basic text editor to make the file. Any editor that can work with plain text should do a fine job.
Smoothstripes was the only Waimea style I finished. I had two others in the works, but never finished them. You can find a bunch of other Kahakai styles here.
Hello,
congratulations for your tricky Mac-updates. I tried waimea, too. But the default-style is not so realy good, and crating buttons is for an newby like me not so easy. So I’m looking for an Waimea-Aqua-style like the OS X one.
Do you know, if anyone has such a style on his site?
Thanks for your answer.
With regards
Stefan
