How ‘bout them Republicans, eh? Not only did the Dems’ predictions about gaining seats in the House not come true, they lost more governerships than they wanted, and even lost control of the Senate! Not since Franklin Roosevelt has one party controlled the White House, Senate and House of Reps.
I stayed up until 1:30 am last night watching the results. Dan Rather couldn’t bring himself to admit that the Dems got slaughtered and lost control of the Senate. Fox News was surprised at how well the Republicans did, as was I.
It looks like there’s going to be a dark spot though. In the South Dakota race, Thune lost by 500 votes to Johnson. That’s an extremely razor-thin margin to lose by in a state-wide race, and many people expect Thune to ask for a recount. On top of that, there’s news going around that there was some tampering of votes going on by the Dems in some Native American reservations. If Thune decides to act on that, the FBI would get involved. If it’s true that the Dems messed with votes, then it will truly be a black day for their party.
