Why Do People Do This?

I really hate it when people link to an image residing on my server rather than copy it to their own server. How lazy do you have to be to do this? It takes all of a couple seconds to copy the image to your server and link to it. A couple minutes if you have trouble with a keyboard.
There have been a few images people have done this with. The most popular one, by far, was the dancing banana GIF I had on one of my entries. It was popping up all over the place, and I noticed several places had simply linked to it on my server instead of making their own copies. So I took the liberty of replacing the image they linked to with ones that had lines like “I’m an asshat!” or “I’m a loser!”. I had to do this three separate times. Each time I changed the name of the real image, other losers would link to it. I finally gave up and removed the real image.
Recently I noticed I was getting a lot of hits from a site about Qatar football (soccer). I followed the link and noticed someone had linked to my picture of Neo from The Matrix Reloaded on an older post. So I once again made a replacement image. You can see the results for yourself.
I will eventually remove that image, otherwise it too will eat up bandwidth. I’ll let it stay up for a while though, so others can have a good laugh.
Chris Curtis helped me out and I now have a solution that blocks all external referrences to my images. Sweet! Now I can put dancing banana back up!
