WoW Airport and Secret Farm

Funny road sign in WoW

Continuing on with the World of Warcraft theme… I managed to find a way into the Gnomish airport in Dun Morogh. You fly over it every time you go from Ironforge to Menethil Harbor. I got there with my Undead rogue by going to the Amberstill Ranch in Dun Morogh and climbing as high as I could just east of there. I then went into walk mode and slowly walked across a sheer rock face until I reached climbable ground again. From there it was easy to find the airport.

Since I was a Horde character, I couldn’t just waltz up and start poking around everything. I had to stay stealthed most of the time, but still got chased by high level guards. Sprint and Vanish saved my butt a couple times.

There’s quite a few funny things to see up there. The first thing you’ll see is a giant turkey shoot. There’s a non-stop swarm of level 7 trolls that run at a wall of high level guards only to get mercilessly slaughtered.

Just beyond that, you’ll two female Dwarves and one male. One of the females is doing the Riverdance. I couldn’t get close enough to take a screen of it though. The one doing the dancing chased me down and nearly killed me. I guess she didn’t like uninvited guests.

There’s a whole row of airplanes there with Gnomes working on them. I tried picking their pockets, but they apparently have no pockets to pick! I did manage to get money, lockboxes and a couple other items off of the lower level guards though.

There’s a flight master at the end of the airport, but I couldn’t go up and see if there was an actual flight path. I did notice that there was one high level guard there that was continually waving at me. No matter where I went in that area, it was always facing me and waving. Weird.

A little further north-east from there, you can find the beginning of large, multi-segment waterfall that heads towards the Wetlands. If you follow the waterfall, you’ll come across a hidden Dwarf farm. Be ready to lose close to 1000 health with the last fall to get there. Once there, there’s a couple guards and a few farmers. You can pick the pockets of the guards, but not the farmers. There’s a small crossroads in the middle of the farm with a funny sign. That’s what the picture up top is of. The directions point to “This Way”, “That Way” and “The Other Way”. On the farthest western edge of the farm, you can just make out Menethil Harbor far below.

There’s also a tunnel that leads through the mountains back towards Ironforge, but when I ran to the end of it there was just a giant empty void. I couldn’t bring myself to jump off the edge and see what would happen.

From there, you head further north into the mass of mountains. Actually, it looks like a mass of mountains on the map, but it’s mostly vast, wide open plains with some valleys here and there. Most of the terrrain’s textures look good, but there’s a place where you can see a distinct line between two different textures.

There’s also a small, but very deep lake in this area. I swam all around it, but didn’t find anything. There’s not even any fish or vegetation in it. This lake is just above the sharp cutback in the route from the Wetlands to Loch Modan.

All-in-all, I spent about three hours trying to find my way into the airport and exploring that whole huge area once I got there. I took about 40 screenshots, and have uploaded most of them to my World of Warcraft Gallery. Take a look under the Wetlands and Dun Morogh categories to see the pics.

This reminds me that I also explored the under-development Caverns of Time several months back. I took a bunch of screens there too and should upload them to the gallery soon. The Caverns of Time will be part of the expansion pack to WoW which will be released in the coming months.

Mmmm’kay. All this WarCraft stuff is arcane to me. I posted in some of your older …posts concerning movies and the like. I’m glad to see you like The Matrix and saddened to see you like the sequels. In my opinion, first Matrix, fantastic. Second Matrix, waste of time and money. Third Matrix…didn’t see it. Fool me once, etc. Okay, okay, let me get into full Grouchy Jay Mode about the Second Matrix. Why I hated it. Two words: Pretentious Bullsh*t. All that useless philosophy, arrgh. When the older lady starts talking in riddles to Neo was when I began to lose it. “Listen Grandma, time’s a wastin’. Answer me straight or I’ll knock the dentures right out of your skull, Polident be damned.” The whole movie I kept looking over at my girlfriend at the time saying, “Um…he can fly right? Why waste time fighting a hundred Agents Smith?” Oh, also…I’d have shot The Merovingian in the knees the minute he started waxing poetic about the French language. BAM! “Oh Merde, eet hurts!!” And about Ms. Belluci teasing Neo in the bathroom about the keymaker. I’d have shot her in the knees too. “I’m NEO dammit! I don’t have time to waste with you morons!! Give me the friggin’ keymaker!!!” And the lapses in logic. If you’re a ghost ( like those albino dorks ) why bother to steal a car to chase Trinity and Morpheus down? Just appear in the back seat!! sigh A friend said I should have seen the third movie. Said it was wrapped up nice and neat. I don’t know…the lapses in logic were too laughable. “Ziiiiiioooooooooon!” ( Morpheus in his cheap prophet mode ) “Machines are digging into the earth to burn our city dooooowwwwnnnnnn! Let’s dance for a few hours!!!” Uh huh. ( shaking my head to rid myself of the memory ) As for cool science fiction films, I agree with you on Blade Runner. Remember when you and I went to see it at the Paramount in Austin? We left early cause you got sick, but it was a cool twenty minutes. LOL. I saw it later on in a theater in Florida. Awesome to see it on the big screen. Another movie you might like ( or not ) is “12 Monkeys” with Bruce Willis. It’s directed by one of my favorite directors, Terry Gilliam. Visual genius that man. He also directed “Brazil.”

Holy crap! Jay Tabares?! How have you been, man? What have you been up to? It’s been what… around ten years since I last saw you, if I remember right.

Don’t get me wrong. While I liked the second two Matrix movies, they weren’t up to the level of the first. That said, I thought they were entertaining. I really enjoyed the fight scenes and various clothing in the second film. The rave in Zion was definitely stupid. I remember rolling my eyes then in the theater. The third film is certainly the worst of the bunch, but still a decent way to waste an evening. The fight inside of Zion was actually well done. I had to see it just so I could say I’d seen them all.

I’ve seen 12 Monkeys. It’s pretty good. I’ve seen it about four times I think. I’ve actually got a running list of movies I’ve seen on this site. I forgot how many movies it’s up to now, but I think it’s over 1000 now. I’ll try and get a page going so others can check it out.

Yeah, Bladerunner at the Paramount. What an excellent setting to see it too! And I go and get sick early on. That sucked. Oh well. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen it and I still love it.

Heh! Added a few to your “Redneck Jedi” post.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States November 29, 2005

Jay (and others who might be interested), I’ve finally got my movie list up and running on the site. You can check it out here.

Jay's gravatar Jay United States November 29, 2005

Wow. And I thought I was a movie fan. Are those stars by the names the ratings? I thought I noticed that Wizard of Oz had no stars.

If you like spooky movies, check out Danny Boyle’s “28 Days Later…” It’s a combination of George Romero’s “The Crazies” and “Day of The Triffids.” And it’s got the awesome Brendan Gleeson in it. Trust me, after you see this movie, the next time some P.E.T.A. jerk walks up to you you’ll want to slap him/her. That is, if you don’t already.

Chris's gravatar Chris United States November 29, 2005

Yeah the stars are ratings. I don’t have ratings on all of them yet. That will probably be a long time in finishing.

I’ve heard 28 Days Later is an intense, but good, movie. I’ll have to check it out.

Ahhh…glad to see you liked Hellboy. I love that comic book. The writer/artist Mike Mignola has his mythology down pat. For some good, funny and creepy reading you should get your hands on the trade paperbacks of that one. Mignola knows the power of a silent panel to convey horror.

Another TPB to get is Alan Moore’s “Watchmen.” Moore takes the concept of the superhero and turns it on its head. Real history, alternate history and even comic book INDUSTRY history figure in this awesome story. Terry Gilliam was going to film it but it got tangled up in development. They also recently completed Alan Moore’s “V for Vendetta.” It’s by the Wachowski Bros. so I’m kind of leery. They took the Matrix concept ( which reportedly was authored by somebody else, case is in court ) and ruined it. Alan Moore has taken his name off of it but I’ll be damned if the posters don’t have just the right visual feeling to them. The majority of us Yanks may have to Google Guy Fawkes to understand the mask that V wears.

Oh, I may have missed this movie on your list but you should also check out “The Company of Wolves” by director Neil Jordan. It’s a visually beautiful retelling of the Red Riding Hood story.

Hey, you ever think about starting a movie score page? Not soundtracks ( y’know, the stupid collection of songs played during a movie ) but the instrumental scores. I collect them as well. Right now I’m listening to Vangelis’ Blade Runner score.

“Do you like our owl?”

you’ve no idea who I am, and vise-versa, but I found your post while googling for a way to the airport…whould you be able to be any more specific about the path you took through the hills to get there? I’ve been trying for a week and I can’t seem to do it!

Chris's gravatar Chris United States September 8, 2006

You can’t make it the way I went anymore. Blizz fixed the bug that allowed you to walk “seams” on hills a couple of patches ago.

I’ve heard it’s still possible to get up there, but I don’t know how.

Ok, I made it to the farm, and I used Eyes of the Beast to controll my pet…. that “void” is a void…. my pet fell the whole minute I controlled it. Basically, I went up the same way, but somehow found another way than the wall… there’s no flightpath, and no one will acctually talk to you, they only give directions…

jack's gravatar jack United Kingdom February 28, 2010

the void u and various ppl mentioned, well i went down there a few months back (way before i came to this website 1st time) all u do is fall for 5 mins and die, also if ur an alliance mage, go to the IF gate graveyard, face towards the small white tree, use slowfall mount up and jump toward that tree, then just climb up and voila ur on IF mountain near IF flag (the highest point in WoW!) and then if u stroll about for a while ull hav access to the wetlands farm AND the airport!

I just made it to the highest peak on the mountain over Ironforge, above the airport!
