I hate eBay with a passion right now. In an earlier post, I had mentioned I was looking to find a copy of Oni for the Mac. Well, I did some searching and finally found one copy of it for auction on eBay. That was four days ago. I’ve been watching it every day since then. The bidding never got high, so I saw my chance to get myself a copy of it for real cheap. I logged in with only a few minutes left and kept reloading the page until I saw there was 1 minute left in the auction. I entered in my bid, which would’ve been the winning one, but instead of seeing a “Congratulations! You’re the winning bidder!”, I saw a #$(*@ login screen asking me for my *%(*&# password! I paniced. I entered in my password and hit submit, but instead of submitting my password, it brought me to some dumbass page with a link back to the item! By the time I FINALLY got back to the auction, time was up!
Needless to say I let loose a few choice words. I’m still very pissed about it. I’m getting angry again writing about it. Why did eBay need my %#*&# password if I was already logged in!?!?!
Now I’ve got to go scouring the Web again trying to find a copy. There are no other Mac copies on eBay. I can’t find any stores still selling it. The folks at OmniGroup won’t sell me a copy. So I’m screwed. And I have eBay to thank.
You’re not annoying, Laura.
My problem with eBay was that they had already asked me for my password minutes earlier, when I first logged on. I was watching the final minutes of an auction, getting ready to bid. Now if I’ve already given my username/password, why should I have to give it again just a couple minutes later? That’s my problem with eBay.
Unless you check the ‘keep me signed in until I sign out’ box when you first sign into eBay, it will keep asking for your password whenever you enter a different area of the site. This took me a while to figure out myself, and I’m guessing you’re new to eBay, so I guess you can be excused for not realising. It is a safety measure, though, so I wouldn’t really blame them for this one. Blame them for the people that swindle innocent buyers instead. ![]()
Yes Ebay sucks!! I once was a buyer, then some kid with criminal tendencies (bomber66) sold me a camcorder for $400 dollars, Description: good working condition. The camcorder was dead! Tried the ebay protection thing, found out i would only be able to get $150 back if i had paid with paypal. I paid with a check. So as a buyer i got screwed.
Then i thouhgt to myself, i’ll just become a seller then, sounds like a good deal and no risks for sellers, they don’t ship ti’ll they get paid and prices go so high because people get so competitive.
So i did. I sold ipods and related stuff for about a year, over 200 succesfull transactions, almost perfect feedback (okandroidpro) if it weren’t for a couple super hard to please wakos that left negative. All was going well ti’ll a few days ago my account was suspended! Reason: connection with a another suspended account. What! Tried calling them, NO phone support! I email them, and so far, No answer!
So ebay is screwing me as seller too apearantly. Guess they are not happy tacking their 10% in fees they charge.
New sellers are required to attain a 10 or better feedback rating before they are allowed to use the buy it now option, or sign up for this thing called IdVerify. To be approved for that I have to give them my birthdate, social security number and drivers license number; as well as give them permission to do a credit check on me and then pay a 5 dollar processing fee as well. I found the Entire request preposterous and absolutely out of the question. I am considering contacting the FCC or someone just that they would make such a ridiculous request in the first place. Talk about setting yourself up for identity theft. I guess Ebay (the owners of PayPal) didn’t think it was enough to own my banking information, now they want to know everything they need to become me. I didn’t so much mind the 5 dollar fee but there is no way under any circumstances will I give them all that other sensitive information. I’m adding this news to all my listings because what they have done is bound to be against some law and if not then it should be.
Laura is Annoying The whole “you should have” comment irks me because even while searching for a “contact us” link they hit you with a gauntlet of login pages, and no matter how hard you click the little “keep me logged in” button as sure as tommorrow they just keep on comin!
I don’t know what pisses me off more the fact that they operate with such wanton disregard for user interface and customer care or that people (like Laura) actually defend this bullshit and blame the user!
I won’t even begin to add the entire year’s worth of losses, but to simply say my co. lost over $2000.00 in DECEMBER 2004 alone, all due to strangely vague “password compromises” ~ and NO PHONE NUMBER or help at all from Customer SVC or their so-called security dept.
We must do all we can to move traffic toward other auction sites so a rival may be born amongst the very few options which exist. Naturally, the hurdle there is simply traffic. I’ve tried several others, one in the UK and one in Austin being the most user friendly and in other ways feasible. Ebuyaustin.com just started up and is small and immediate in their responses if anyone else would like to join me; it is not just for austin but is based there. Who knows. Feel free to contact and good luck!
No, Im not bomber66. I was just reading this discussion because I think Ebay sucks too. I guess i am anal about facts.
Anyway, i sold something on ebay, and the buyer is threatening me with negative feedback because i supposedly forgot to include an item, so now i am in the ridiculous position to have to buy this item that i just sold to her and mail it to them. So it works both ways, sellers can get screwed too
Ebay, Ebay, Ebay. I got suspended last week without any cause given other than something or someone did a Section 9. I had a good record, and to the best of my knowledge I didn’t do anything wrong. If I had, sure – they should have the right to nix my account. But to suspend the account without given any reasons is bizarre. And the lack of any response to requests for information on the suspension has added to the impression I have that ebay is out of control.
Ebay is flush with money now , and buying up other companies like crazy. Recently they bought Bazee, IAC, and a big chunk of Craigslist. They are reputed to be the fastest growing company in history. They
have a monopoly, and so their apparent attitude is that they can do whatever they like without giving even cursory reasons for it.
Dear Friends,
I have just read and signed the online petition:
“Protest to the Ebay Fee Structure Increase” at: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/ebayfee/I personally agree with what this petition says, and I think you might
agree, too. If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and consider
signing yourself.
Best wishes
Ebay’s fees are ridiculous! Check out http://www.wagglepop.com
It is a brand new auction site and will be opening in just a few short weeks!
They have a message board available for everyone to get familiar with the site. Looks like Ebay will have some competition!
Here is Wagglepop’s fee structure.

It’s about time sellers start making a profit!
I’m surprise eBay doesn’t already have something like that set up. I play World of Warcraft, and the game includes some auction houses for people to put up items they find in-game. It’s a nice way to make some money quick or find a good deal on an item you’re wanting. WoW has just what you’re asking for. If a last-minute bidder comes in, the auction is extended by 10 minutes, maybe 15. It IS extended though. Now if a game can have this, why can’t eBay?
Chris – Apparently when you say “eBay sucks”, Google listens. I simply wanted to join in the chorus and hopefully get some traffic heading to my new eBay rant site: www.negative-feedback.com
