What you’re looking at is a picture of my uncle’s heavily modded Husqvarna lawnmower. I have no idea how much money he’s spent doing it, but I’m sure it’s a pretty penny. The mower by itself cost a couple thousand. All the other addons I’m clueless about the cost.
In the above picture (and especially in the large version) you can see some of the mods he’s added. The most obvious ones would be the plow and the canopy. The plow is a factory add-on, but a brush guard has been welded on top of it. The same guy who did the brush guard also welded a custom toolbox on the back you can just see in the picture.
The only other factory add-on is the rear-wheel weights which he had added so he could use the plow. The weights are probably the most inconspicuous add-on.
My uncle has added halogen bulbs to the factory headlamps, but that wasn’t bright enough for him, so he added two extremely bright lights above the factory ones. They’re turned on by a little switch above the steering wheel and can easily light up the night.
Right above them he added two very loud air horns. These are activated by a button he mounted on the steering wheel. He’s already used the horns to let dump trucks know they need to move for his bad, little mower.
I also took a picture of the interior. In that picture you can see some of the other mods he’s added like the rotating fan, cigarette lighter and dash-mounted über-clock. The clock can tell him the temperature and of course time. It can even project it into the canopy at night for easier reading. There’s even a rearview mirror.
I’m not sure what else he plans on adding, but I’m sure he’s got some ideas. I’m trying to convince him to put fluorescent lights underneath or maybe hydraulic suspension.
First off, the barn is our barn, not his. That barn is older than anyone I know and looks better unpainted. In fact, it’s such a picturesque barn it’s been used in paintings.
The yard is our yard. It’s brown because it’s almost Christmas time, and grass goes brown in freezing weather. Notice there’s no leaves on anything? We could try to keep it green year-round, but the cost to do that for a 1+ acre yard would be ridiculous. It would look weird to have 1 green acre and 12 brown acres of field all around it too.
Mike, that is what I’m trying to get my uncle to do with his mower. That’s hilarious! Although that mower is non-functional, while his can still mow. Still, it would be funny if he did something along those lines.
Les, there are people who hate his mower and others who love it. More people get a kick out of it than hate it though. Spending a couple thousand on a lawnmower isn’t a big deal if you have a huge lawn like most people do out here. Plus, my uncle uses that mower in his business, so the cost was reasonable.
Excellent! A man after my own heart. Some other additions I’d suggest- – a drink holder – a GPS receiver – satellite radio or iPod mount – FRS radio or cel phone – a light bar across the top of the canopy – a flashing blue cop-type light on top – maybe some flames painted on the sides.
BTW, love the barn!
I realized earlier, that today is our uncle’s birthday.
I can remember back to when I was 2 and 3 years old, and Jim would sometimes use a piece of rope and pull me in a small red wagon behind his his lawn tractor. I remember it being fun except that starting out was the rough part. The tractor didn’t start moving so smoothly when the clutch was let out, and I sometimes flew out the back of the wagon, and landed head first on the sidewalk.
It really is a nice lawn mower, but maybe your uncle should have spent as much time painting his barn…
